Rad Resources

by Matt Logan on February 17, 2013

booksI have some excellent resources for everyone this week. I’m going to share with you two valuable blogs that you ought to be following, and one excellent website where you can learn songs to use with your own kids or in your work with children.

First, the blogs. If you don’t already know them, let me introduce to you two different Rachels. The first is Rachel Rambach of Listen & Learn Music. Rachel is a board certified music therapist in Springfield, Illinois, and she posts TONS of great content about her work as a teacher and therapist. She is a MONSTER blogger (seriously, in 2011 she wrote a post every single day – sometimes 2 a day!) and she writes and records songs weekly. She categorizes her songs and makes them available to listen to and purchase. If you have kids, work with kids, or just really dig kids songs, you will love this site.

The other Rachel is Rachel See Smith, a music therapist in Austin, Texas. She can be found at Music Therapy Services of Austin. In addition to being a wonderful clinician, she is extra fancy when it comes to web design. In fact, I recently saw that she is offering web design as one of her services! Rachel sees a wide variety of clients, but she is particularly smart when it comes to children with speech and hearing goals. She collaborates with speech-language pathologists regularly, using music to work with kids on their communication skills. When you get to her site, be sure to check out her ebooks and freebies.

Finally, check out Songs for Teaching. You will find a superfluity of songs, from lullaby lyrics and other songs for early childhood development, to songs that teach mathematics, sciences, and a variety of world languages. Music is a great way to communicate information to youngsters, and this site will provide you with tunes that are applicable to a wide variety of topics and settings.

That’s it for this week! Happy surfing!
